The Breaker and The Gate

We are told in Matthew 11:12, “From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.” To understand the meaning, we must look at the original context. The Hebrew verb paratz means “to break forth as a child from the womb.” This Hebrew verb resembles action, or breaking forth. To align with and move into the Kingdom of God, we must go through the gate. In John 10:7 we learn that Jesus is that gate: “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate of the sheep.”

It was prophesied by Micah in the Old Testament that the Messiah would be the shepherd who would breach a section of the fence or wall of the sheepfold (the earthly existence) for the remnant. The sheep (believers; breachers), would then continue to break through the fence into greener pastures as they follow their Shepherd: “He who breaks open the way goes up before them. They break through the gate, and go out. And their king passes on before them, with Yahweh at their head” (Micah 2:13).

Jesus is both the breaker and the gate (or door) through which His sheep go through to enter into Zion - the New Jerusalem. He made a way for us to break out of entanglements that keep us enslaved. He is the leader in this exodus into the eternal garden. This kind of exodus of breaking forth resembles waging war in wisdom that is reflected by the choices we make.

This kind of violence speaks of a soldier who pursues the Kingdom of God no matter the cost.

This kind of violence is likened to the one who will speak and act morally according to the living Word of God when it’s contradictory to what others are saying or doing who aren’t reading their Bibles.

This kind of violence is the persistence and boldness it takes to pursue righteousness, justice, and love in the face of wickedness, injustice, and hate.

This kind of violence loves people, but slays wickedness.

This kind of violence puts to death the desires of the flesh to pursue holiness.

The kind of violence does not watch or look at what is vile, which fuels perversion.

This kind of violence is for the ones dressed in the right robe, the best robe.
