The Eye Gates

First, we must understand that the soul can be moved by what one allows to enter. Think about this for a moment. Something that you see, can cause an emotion. Something that you smell, a flower for example, can cause a memory to arise, a chain of thoughts to progress. There are 5 gates into your soul. You Soul is your mind, emotions and your will, being, what you choose to do. The 5 senses are the 5 gates. I am going to cover primarily, the eye gates.

A few weeks ago, I came across a post on social media that went something like this: "If you are religious or sensitive then do not look at this post." I never did open the post to what she was referring too. Now, I know this individual desires greater peace and healthy intimacy in her life and that she is seeking a relationship with the Father. I also knew that her post, just by first glance, without a 'click' was pornography. Beloved, we each have our own struggle, but we also must each fight for our own inward peace.

The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is

darkness, how great is that darkness! The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! – Matthew 6:22

It’s not about being ‘too religious’ if I choose to not look at something. It’s about desiring to protect what is known as The Secret Place, the Spirit and the Soul (mind, emotions, will). It’s about desiring peace in the inner man, which in turn, honors and allows greater intimacy with God the Father. Personally, I am better able to commune with God through prayer and getting in the Word when my mind is not boggled down with images that distract and destroy.

Satan is out to destroy the mind and he knows the Eye Gate is an entrance into my Soul. And so, I will protect what goes in through my eyes.

The eye gate, also referred to as the ‘windows of the soul’ can be protected. What you allow through your eye gates will seep into your mind and eventually into you heart. If you claim to be a follower of Christ, are one who desires to love & honor The Lord, I would challenge you to really question the kinds of things that you are allowing through the gates of your eyes.

Beloved, there must be a fight for the Eyes.

In scripture we can find that David says, I will set before my eyes no vile thing. Psalm 101:3

David wanted to live a blameless life. To do that, he knew that he needed to avoid temptations to sin, such as looking at wickedness. Pornography is a wicked thing, a poison seeking to destroy sexuality and the purity of the kind of sex the God creates. One of David’s greatest sins occurred later in his reign as king when he “set before his eyes a vile thing” and watched Bathsheba bathing, setting off a chain of sin. In today’s culture, we are literally surrounded by “vile things”.

These “vile things” are entering in through the gates of the eyes through movies, television shows, and the internet especially when it comes to pornography. As followers of Christ, it is important that we protect our eyes from what they can see, but it is even more important that we protect our children’s eyes from what they can see.

What are you allowing into your home?

Whether we realize it or not, our hearts are affected by what we see. In order to protect our hearts, let us all resign to set before our eyes no vile thing. Don’t allow the media to move your soul and distract you from the peace and joy that God has for you. Make war on the things that seek to annihilate you.

Being ‘desensitized’ is not okay Beloved. That means you’re asleep!! It’s time to wake up.

Practical Tips

#1: Ask The Lord to raise up a sensitive Spirit and to understand what is Good, what is pure and worthy of thought. I’ve always prayed the prayer of; “Show me what you love God and also what you hate.” Did you know God has emotions? ‘The Lord hates… a lying tongue.’ Proverbs 6:17

#2: No R or PG13 movies. We are sometimes cautious of even the PG movies these days. This is a rule in our home.

#3: Get into the Word. The Word is your sword.

#4: Struggling with viewing Pornography? How about an online accountability group?

#5: Accountability with one person. We each must have someone that we can be totally honest with.

#6: Courage. Yes, courage. When it seems like others are watching certain movies or reading certain books (50 Shades of Grey, Magic Mike). No, I haven’t seen either & don’t plan on watching either.

#7: Read and Watch good books and movies that actually honor The Lord and your soul.

In Israel, there is a mural that has been created, depcting thr progression of time through the lense of scripture. What do you see in the photo that depicts a painting? Beloved, make no mistake. Satan is out to destroy and he does it in sublte ways.

Images of idols before a generation (TV, alcohol, internet).
